JAPANESE WOOD PIGEON
Japanese wood pigeon
(ENDANGERED)

The length of the body is about 40 cm. It resembles Karasubato in the islands of Okinawa, but the color is rather lighter than that. The species is a typical subspecies in the islands of Yaeyama, and they live in the Ishigaki island, the Iriomote island, and Yonaguni island. The sound resembles that of a cow. They live in the forests of ever-green and broadleaf trees. Little is known about their numbers and their lives. Destruction of their habitats and environments due to deforestation and development is feared.
