"Namie's frog" only inhabits the streams of the mountainous district in the northern part of Okinawa proper and is distinguished by a thick body, rough skin and rhombic shaped eyes. It lives widely throughout Taiwan and points further south, but is a rarity because it ranges throughout Okinawa proper, going beyond Yaeyama and Miyako islands.
