Ministering on Okinawa since 1968
aranatha started with the military in mind.
Brother Kennard a missionary from mainland Japan came to Okinawa to minister to military
families. A group started to meet at homes. When the group grew, Brother Kennard
asked Bob Elsey to come to Okinawa and start a Church. Al Sligh who got saved here
became his Assistant Pastor. God blessed his soul winning efforts and Pastor Elsey's
leadership. The church grew and up to now the Lord keeps adding families
to
Maranatha Baptist Church.
he church has been ministering to military since 1968.
People are being saved through its' various ministries. The visitation program, one
of the leading proponents of soul winning is very active. The bus ministry, where children
primarily are given transportation to go to church on Sunday has added not only children
but the entire family as well to
God's family. The Sunday School for children and adults help each one
grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord. The newly activated Master Club every
Wednesday gives children various ways to apply their faith. The church also gives
counseling to those who need help.
ellowships abound at Maranatha. Bible studies
help the Koreans and Filipino ladies get a good dose
of fellowship. The ladies' retreats also build up the faith of the women in the church.
Choir members enjoy one anothers' musical talents. The men's prayer meeting and retreats
help the men in their spiritual walk. The G.I. fellowships' dinner and bible
studies make the single and un-accompanied people busy for the Lord. Summer camps enable
the children to experience God's creation first hand. Through all these God has enriched
the lives of members of Maranatha Baptist Church. |
